Cover of Darkness Jan 2012 Available

My short story, "In the Eye of the Beholder" is in the current edition of "Cover of Darkness" from Samsdot publishing. It's the story of a scientist studying alien creatures on their home planet, and discovering that they are not what they first appear.

I'm so looking forward to reading the other stories in the anthology.

I started to write this story for a writing exercise for an online critique group I belonged to at the time, but I couldn't get it to fit into the 400 word limit the exercise required. Instead of fighting the word count, I decided to skip the assignment that week and write the story the way I wanted it to be. This should be a reminder to me that they best way to increase my odds of getting my work published is to actually finish something and start submitting. Finishing is a weak area for me.

So anyway, go out there (or click over there) and get a copy. Then come tell me what you think of it! I don't see the ebook up yet, but will post about that when it shows up.

At Last - I'm Having a Sale!

So - I almost never have sales or discounts. My profit margin is low, and I never know what kind of offer would make sense, so I don't bother. But for the past several months I've wanted to do one. I have so many wonderful customers, and I want to do something. Plus I have a bunch of pretty new fabric, and I want to make new stuff, but I hate doing that when I still have so much already listed.

So I gave it some serious thought. I can't ever have a store wide sale because I list stuff for my mom too. I can't make her accept less money for what she makes, that isn't nice (plus, I don't think she charges enough to begin with for her wonderful work.) So what to do? What I want the most is to make some new books with new pictures. So that means clearing out some of the books that are listed now.

So here's the sale:

All Pre-made Soft Fabric Books Only $15.00 Until the End of August!

I'm off right now to change the price in all my soft fabric book listings from the regular $18.00 to $15.00 so there will be no need for anyone to go through the hassle of waiting for an updated invoice or anything confusing like that. Even if I get a few new books posted, they will still be included in the sale price.

Thanks everyone!
Here they are: Karabu's Soft Fabric Books for Babies and Toddlers
Yea for sales!

My Street teams

I just wanted to give a little shout out to the various street teams I belong to at Etsy. If you're an Etsy seller and considering joining a team, I highly recommend it. I know it has helped with my sales, but more than that is the educational and emotional support, cross promotions, and even group discounts that go a long way to making this whole online commerce thing doable and fun.

First off is Etsy for Animals. A group of sellers dedicated to helping animals and who donate individually or collectively to animal charities. I give 10% of my sales to the charity of the month at http://www.etsyforanimals.com/

Next, is the California Crafter's CLub of Etsy. It's a team made up of artists ans crafters who live in California. http://cccoe.socalblog.org/

And last is actually the first team I joined. A wonderful group of crafters who make items for babies and kids. I've bought some really cool stuff for my girls from EtsyKids sellers. http://www.etsykids.com/

You can search for items from any of these groups at Etsy by using the tags: EFA, CCCOE, or Etsykids.
